We are at a unique point in the history of the church. Due to COVID-19 we can not meet in person for Easter. For this reason we will worship together as a church in our homes. We must face these uncertain times with a sober mindedness that is anchored firmly in the HOPE of the GOSPEL.
“In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:6-7)
The apostle helps believers recognize that their present sufferings and struggles—whether due to social distancing, threats, sickness, and so on—are not random blows of Fate but a divinely designed test to prove their faith and prepare them for glory. Our present peace and future hope should move us to respond to crises like the coronavirus outbreak with Christ-exalting good works because of the HOPE we have in Christ.
